Overview:
The Ensemble Baroque Atlantique’s make their recording debut with a programme devoted to specially written new versions of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sinfonias and Concerti.
Organ sonata BWV 530 was composed in the concertante style, so it lends itself easily to reconstruction as the concerto for two violins and orchestra performed on this recording.>The Sinfonias from cantatas BWV 4, BWV 12 and BWV 196 are Italian-inspired and offer a powerful narrative link to the Concerti, creating a sense of continuity in a way similar to a cantata or an opera. The famous violin concerto in A minor, BWV 1041, occupies its rightful place at the heart of this unusual programme. Finally, the concerto for three harpsichords, BWV 1064, transcribed for three violins and orchestra, brings the programme – tailor-made for the musicians of the EBA – to a truly joyous conclusion.
Like so many other composers of his time, Bach wrote for musicians he knew and so, following in this tradition, Guillaume Rebinguet Sudre has designed the programme and gathered the musicians from the Ensemble Baroque Atlantic together to offer a living, spontaneous interpretation of Bach's music.
